Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 5, 2026  ·  Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology (AZ StRUT)

This Privacy Policy explains how Arizona Students Recycling Used Technology, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“AZ StRUT,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website at azstrut.org, our mobile applications for iOS and Android, and related services (together, the “Services”). We value your privacy: we do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising or share it with data brokers.

1. Overview

We collect only the information we need to provide our Services—helping you donate and recycle electronics, find drop-off locations, request refurbished equipment, volunteer, and stay connected. This policy applies to information collected through our website, mobile apps, forms, and communications.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Contact & account details: your name, email address, phone number, and—for organizations—organization details you enter in membership, volunteer, equipment-request, or donation forms.
  • Profile photo: if you choose to upload one for your member profile.
  • Request & application content: the information you submit in equipment requests, volunteer applications, and similar forms.
  • Volunteer application details: for volunteer applications, your mailing address and date of birth (to confirm age and, where applicable, obtain parental consent). When you apply on behalf of a minor, we also collect the participant’s name and a parent/guardian signature accepting the volunteer release.

Account & sign-in information

  • Login credentials: an email/password, a passkey, or a social sign-in (see Section 5). Volunteers and staff sign in with an Employee ID and PIN.
  • Identifiers: an account or user ID we assign to you.

Information collected automatically (mobile app)

  • Device token: if you enable notifications, a push-notification token so we can send you the alerts you chose.
  • Location: with your permission, your device location—used on your device to show nearby drop-off locations, and, only when you clock in as a volunteer, to geotag that time-clock punch (see Section 6).

We do not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking in our app, and we do not track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to: create and manage your account; authenticate you and keep your account secure; provide and improve the Services; process and coordinate donations, equipment requests, and volunteer activity; record volunteer hours and time-off requests; send the notifications you request; respond to your inquiries; and comply with legal obligations. We use information for app functionality and to operate our programs—not for third-party advertising.

4. How We Share Information

We share information only as needed to run our Services, and never sell it. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who process data on our behalf—for example, SendGrid (transactional email delivery), Mailchimp (email newsletters), Google Maps and Google Places (mapping and location), Google Analytics (website analytics), Monday.com (equipment-request management), PayPal and iPOSPays (payment processing for donations), and our website host. These providers may only use the information to perform services for us.
  • Social sign-in providers you choose to use (Section 5).
  • Legal & safety recipients when required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of AZ StRUT, our users, or the public.
  • Successors in the unlikely event of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets, consistent with this policy.

5. Social Sign-In

We offer sign-in with Apple, Google, and Microsoft through a third-party integration (Nextend Social Login). When you use it, the provider shares limited profile information—such as your name and email address—so we can create or match your AZ StRUT account. We use that information only to provide the Services. Each provider’s handling of your data is governed by its own privacy policy, and you can disconnect a social login at any time from your account or the provider’s settings.

6. Location Information

In our app, location is used on your device to center the map and show how far drop-off locations are from you—this is not sent to us. Separately, only when a volunteer clocks in, the app records the location of that clock-in to geotag the punch, and that geotag is stored with the time-clock record. You can decline location access and still use the rest of the app; you can change this anytime in your device settings.

7. Push Notifications

If you enable notifications, we store a device push token to deliver the categories you choose (such as Fun Finds videos, news, equipment-request updates, collection events, and time-off decisions), through Apple Push Notification service (iOS) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android). You can turn notifications off at any time in the app or your device settings, which stops delivery.

8. Cookies & Analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the site to function, to remember your preferences, and—through Google Analytics—to understand general, aggregated site usage so we can improve it. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect information such as your IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you visit; its handling of that data is governed by Google’s privacy policy, and you can opt out using Google’s browser add-on. You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Our mobile app does not use third-party advertising or cross-app tracking technologies.

9. Profile Photos & Uploads

If you upload a profile photo or files (such as documents in an application), we store them to display on your profile and to process your request. You can update or remove your profile photo, and you can ask us to delete uploaded files, subject to records we must retain.

10. Data Retention

We keep personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, and afterward as required to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain program and donation records, and enforce our agreements. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

11. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including secure connections and access controls. For qualifying donated devices, we provide data wiping and destruction under our data-security procedures. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Your Choices & Rights

You can review and update your account information, manage notification preferences, disconnect social logins, and control location and cookie permissions through your device or browser. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to request a copy of it. To exercise these rights or delete your account, contact us at info@azstrut.org; we will respond as required by applicable law. We do not sell personal information.

13. Children’s Privacy

Our Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised effective date, and your continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
