Summer may be a break from the classroom, but at AZ StRUT, it’s one of our busiest seasons for creating opportunity. From hands-on techie experiences across Arizona to corporate Refurbishathons and meaningful memorial gifts, this month was all about turning donated technology into brighter futures. Here’s a look at everything that happened.
Cartwright Students Help Keep Arizona Green ♻️
Students from the Cartwright School District rolled up their sleeves and teamed up with AZ StRUT to dismantle hundreds of donated computers. By responsibly separating reusable and recyclable components, these students helped keep valuable materials out of Arizona landfills while learning about sustainable technology practices.

Summer Techie Experiences Inspire Future Innovators 🚀
Summer learning was in full swing as students across Arizona gained hands-on experience through our Hardware Techie Experience program.
Ak-Chin Education Summer Enrichment
Students in grades 6–8 explored computer hardware, learned how technology works from the inside out, and built confidence using tools and components!
Gila River Indian Community
Medical Professions Summer Camp students explored computer hardware through hands-on activities — and each earned a refurbished laptop to support their educational and career goals.
Casa Grande
Students rolled up their sleeves to disassemble and rebuild desktop computers, gaining valuable technical skills and a better understanding of how computers work.
Bank of America Volunteers Make a Difference 💪
Nearly 100 Bank of America employees volunteered with AZ StRUT during a series of Refurbishathons held throughout June at their Chandler and Phoenix locations.
Together, volunteers installed RAM, tested functionality, cleaned Chromebooks, and prepared approximately 450 devices for students, job seekers, and families across Arizona!

Board Spotlight: President Scott Platsky 🌟
This month we’re proud to shine a spotlight on AZ StRUT’s newly elected Board President, Scott Platsky.
My journey with AZ StRUT began in 2014 when I was approached by its former Executive Director who saw that my experience and daytime work with Fennemore Craig could benefit AZ StRUT in a myriad of ways. I quickly discovered what makes this organization so special — the people and the mission to close the digital divide that exists throughout the great state of Arizona.
I had the privilege of serving as AZ StRUT’s Secretary from 2024 through 2026, where I gained a deeper appreciation for the dedication of our volunteers, Board members, and the countless individuals who work behind the scenes to make our events and programs successful. In May 2026, I was honored to be elected President of AZ StRUT. I am grateful for the trust the other Board of Directors membership has placed in me and excited about the opportunities ahead.
My goal is to continue the traditions that already make AZ StRUT an incredible asset to the greater Arizona Community. Professionally, I have spent much of my career in technology and project leadership, but some of my most rewarding experiences have come through volunteer service and community involvement. I firmly believe that organizations like AZ StRUT succeed because of the passion, generosity, and commitment of their members.
As President, I look forward to stewarding the Board of Directors, listening to our staff, supporting our volunteers, and helping AZ StRUT continue to grow while preserving the values and spirit that have made it such a remarkable organization. I am excited for what the future holds and look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events.

Honoring Harold Wong’s Legacy 🙌
This month, we were honored to receive several memorial donations in memory of Harold Wong. We later learned that Harold, a supporter of AZ StRUT’s mission, requested in his obituary that, in lieu of flowers, friends and family make donations to AZ StRUT and other local nonprofits.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Harold’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. We are deeply grateful to be included in his lasting legacy, and we’re honored that gifts made in his memory will help provide technology, education, and opportunity to communities across Arizona.
Supporting the Next Generation at EVIT 🎶
AZ StRUT was proud to partner with EVIT’s student-run radio station, 88.7 The Pulse, during its recent fundraiser! By sponsoring and hosting a silent auction, we helped raise $2,416 to support the program and celebrate the incredible work of these students and educators.

AZ StRUT’s mission is to improve the competitiveness of Arizona’s technical workforce by supporting applied learning through scholarships and donated technology, providing refurbished equipment to schools and nonprofits, promoting diversity in technical education, and ensuring responsible electronic recycling.
