How It Works

Every week, AZ StRUT processes nearly 19,600 pounds of donated electronics. Here’s how we take what you give us and turn it into opportunity — for students, nonprofits, and the environment.

19,600 Pounds Processed Every Week

AZ StRUT is one of Arizona’s most active electronics recycling and refurbishment nonprofits. Every week our facility processes nearly 10 tons of donated electronics — sorting, refurbishing, remarketing, and responsibly recycling what comes through our doors.

Whether you drop off a single laptop or arrange a corporate pickup of hundreds of devices, every donation goes through the same careful process to ensure it reaches its highest and best use.

  • 174 computers refurbished for communities in need each week
  • 8,036 pounds reused through resale and redistribution weekly
  • 11,564 pounds recycled responsibly to R2 standards weekly
  • Drop off accepted at our Tempe facility, Data Doctors, and Batteries + Bulbs locations
  • Pickup available for large donations — we come to you

The Four Steps

From the moment you donate to the moment a student powers on their new device, here’s what happens.

1. Collect

Donations arrive via drop-off at our Tempe facility, partner locations like Data Doctors and Batteries + Bulbs, or through our scheduled pickup service for large donations.

2. Sort

Every device is evaluated by our team of staff and volunteers. We assess condition, functionality, and potential — directing each item toward refurbishment, reuse, remarketing, or recycling.

3. Refurbish

Qualifying devices are cleaned, repaired, tested, and restored to working condition. Many are used directly in our Techie Lab and Techie Experience education programs — and students take them home.

4. Recycle

What can’t be refurbished or reused is responsibly recycled according to R2 standards — the gold standard for electronics recycling. Nothing goes to a landfill if we can help it.
